The Maharashtra government has officially declared leprosy a “notifiable disease” / ਮਹਾਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਤ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਕੋੜ੍ਹ ਰੋਗ ਨੂੰ "ਨੋਟੀਫਾਈਏਬਲ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ" ਘੋਸ਼ਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ

- This directive mandates that all public and private medical professionals, pathologists, and healthcare institutions report every diagnosed case of leprosy to the local health authorities within two weeks.
- The move is part of the state's goal to achieve a "leprosy-free Maharashtra by 2027“.
- Leprosy, also known as Hansen's disease, is a chronic bacterial infection that primarily affects the skin, peripheral nerves, upper respiratory tract, and eyes.
- It is caused by slow-growing bacteria, Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium lepromatosis.
- Leprosy is not highly contagious.
- It is primarily spread through respiratory droplets (from the nose and mouth) during prolonged, close contact with an untreated infected person.
- Most people (around 95%) have natural immunity to the bacteria and do not develop the disease.
- Leprosy is curable with multidrug therapy (MDT), a combination of antibiotics (dapsone, rifampicin, and clofazimine) provided free of charge by the World Health Organization (WHO).

- ਕੁਸ਼ਟ ਰੋਗ ਮਲਟੀਡਰੱਗ ਥੈਰੇਪੀ (ਐਮਡੀਟੀ) ਨਾਲ ਇਲਾਜਯੋਗ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਸਿਹਤ ਸੰਗਠਨ (ਡਬਲਯੂਐਚਓ) ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੁਫਤ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਐਂਟੀਬਾਇਓਟਿਕਸ (ਡੈਪਸੋਨ, ਰਿਫਾਮਪੀਸਿਨ, ਅਤੇ ਕਲੋਫਾਜ਼ੀਮਾਈਨ) ਦਾ ਸੁਮੇਲ ਹੈ.
