The recognition highlights his innovative "ice stupa" project, which involves creating artificial glaciers to store winter water for use during the dry spring months
Ironically, this international acknowledgment came while Wangchuk was in jail under India's National Security Act (NSA) following protests in Ladakh demanding statehood and constitutional safeguards for the region's environment and indigenous communities.
