Sonam Wangchuk included in Time magazine's list of 100 most influential climate leaders / ਸੋਨਮ ਵਾਂਗਚੁਕ ਨੂੰ ਟਾਈਮ ਮੈਗਜ਼ੀਨ ਦੀ 100 ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਜਲਵਾਯੂ ਨੇਤਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੂਚੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ
- He was specifically recognized under the "Defenders" category for his decades-long contributions to sustainable living and climate resilience in the Himalayan region.
- The recognition highlights his innovative "ice stupa" project, which involves creating artificial glaciers to store winter water for use during the dry spring months
- Ironically, this international acknowledgment came while Wangchuk was in jail under India's National Security Act (NSA) following protests in Ladakh demanding statehood and constitutional safeguards for the region's environment and indigenous communities.
