The first-ever auction of limestone mineral blocks in the UT of J&K will be formally launched in Jammu/ ਜੰਮੂ-ਕਸ਼ਮੀਰ ਦੇ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਸ਼ਾਸਤ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੂਨੇ ਦੇ ਪੱਥਰ ਦੇ ਖਣਿਜ ਬਲਾਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਨਿਲਾਮੀ ਰਸਮੀ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਜੰਮੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ

                  What is Limestone?

  • Sedimentary rock made of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) (calcite/aragonite).
  • Occurs in almost all geological periods except Gondwana.
  • Composition: Mostly CaCO₃ + magnesium carbonate (dolomite); minor clay, iron carbonate, feldspar, pyrite, quartz; often fossil shell fragments.
  • Distribution in India
  • Largest: Karnataka (28%).
  • Production: 75%+ from AP–Telangana, Rajasthan, MP, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka.

                      ਚੂਨਾ ਪੱਥਰ ਕੀ ਹੈ?

  • ਕੈਲਸ਼ੀਅਮ ਕਾਰਬੋਨੇਟ (CaCO₃) (ਕੈਲਸਾਈਟ/ਅਰਾਗੋਨਾਈਟ) ਤੋਂ ਬਣੀ ਤਲਛਟ ਚੱਟਾਨ।
  • ਗੋਂਡਵਾਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਲਗਭਗ ਸਾਰੇ ਭੂ-ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕ ਦੌਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
  • ਰਚਨਾ: ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾਤਰ CaCO₃ + ਮੈਗਨੀਸ਼ੀਅਮ ਕਾਰਬੋਨੇਟ (ਡੋਲੋਮਾਈਟ); ਛੋਟੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ, ਲੋਹਾ ਕਾਰਬੋਨੇਟ, ਫੈਲਡਸਪਾਰ, ਪਾਈਰਾਈਟ, ਕੁਆਰਟਜ਼; ਅਕਸਰ ਜੈਵਿਕ ਸ਼ੈੱਲ ਦੇ ਟੁਕੜੇ।
  •  ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੰਡ
  • ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ: ਕਰਨਾਟਕ (28%)।
