What are Grasslands?

• Grasslands are open ecosystems dominated by grasses, with few or no trees, and are found in savannahs, steppes, prairies, and rangelands.
• They cover around 40% of the Earth’s land surface and support pastoral livelihoods, wildlife, and soil-based carbon storage.

•  Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan released a collection of 55 literary works prepared by centres dedicated to India’s classical languages, highlighting efforts to preserve and promote linguistic heritage.
• The collection includes works in Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Odia, and Tamil, along with a sign-language series of the Tirukkural by Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar.
• In 2024, the Modi government granted classical language status to five additional languages—Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Assamese, and Bengali—taking the total to 11 classical languages in India.
• Earlier, six languages—Tamil, Sanskrit, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, and Odia—were accorded classical status during the period 2004–2024.

• NHAI has created two Guinness World Records for bituminous concrete laying on the Vanavolu–Vankarakunta section of the six-lane Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor.
• The records include around 29 lane-kilometres, the longest continuous bituminous concrete laying within 24 hours, and over 10,000 metric tonnes, the highest quantity laid continuously in 24 hours.
• The 343-km-long Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor is expected to enhance inter-state connectivity between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
• Additionally, two more Guinness World Record attempts are underway on the Vanavolu–Vankarakunta–Odulapalle section of NH-544G.

About Sagar Island

• Also known as Gangasagar or Sagardwip, Sagar Island is located in the Ganges delta of West Bengal.
• It lies about 100 km south of Kolkata and forms part of the South 24 Parganas district, comprising 43 villages.
• he island is situated at the mouth of the Hooghly River (a major distributary of the Ganges), separated from the mainland to the east by an arm of the river.
• Though geographically part of the Sundarbans, it lacks tiger habitats, mangrove forests, and small river tributaries typical of the delta region.
