Colombia and Uzbekistan join NDB ahead of 17th BRICS Summit / 17ਵੇਂ ਬ੍ਰਿਕਸ ਸਿਖਰ ਸੰਮੇਲਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕੋਲੰਬੀਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਜ਼ਬੇਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਐਨਡੀਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਏ

  • Colombia and Uzbekistan have officially joined the New Development Bank (NDB) just before the 17th BRICS Summit.
  •  This move increases the total number of NDB members to 11 countries.
  • The New Development Bank, also known as NDB, was created in 2015 by the original BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
  • Over time, more countries joined, including Bangladesh, UAE, Egypt, and Algeria. Now, with Colombia and Uzbekistan joining, the bank has 11 member countries.

  • The HKC is a global treaty developed under the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to regulate the safe and environmentally sound recycling of end-of-life ships.
  • Requires ships to carry a list of hazardous materials onboard (like asbestos, mercury, PCBs).
  • Ship Recycling Plans (SRP) must be approved before dismantling.
  • • Recycling yards must issue Recycling Completion Certificates within 14 days.
  • • Certification and audits by recognized classification societies.
  • • Encourages establishment of authorized and regulated recycling yards
  • India is a key player—it hosts one of the world’s biggest ship recycling yards (Alang, Gujarat) and ratified the convention in 2023

UAE Rolls Out golden visa

  • The proposed policy awards Indians the UAE’s golden visa for life on paying a fee of AED 100,000 (around Rs 23.3 lakh), sources told PTI. This policy would do away with the current requirement of investing in property or a business in the Emirates.
