Discovery of a new 'Super-Earth' GJ 251 c, located 18 light years away from Earth /
Astronomers have recently announced the discovery of the new "super-Earth" exoplanet GJ 251 c, located approximately 18 light-years away from Earth.
This makes it one of the closest potentially habitable planets discovered so far and a prime target for future study in the search for life beyond our solar system.
Preliminary data suggests the planet is likely rocky in nature, with a mass about four times greater than Earth’s.
GJ 251 c is classified as a "super-Earth" because it is larger and more massive than Earth but smaller than gas giants like Neptune
The exoplanet orbits within its host star's "habitable zone" (or "Goldilocks zone"), the region where conditions could allow liquid water to exist on its surface, provided it has a suitable atmosphere.
It orbits a red dwarf star named GJ 251, which is cooler and smaller than our Sun.
