Engineers India Limited established India's first bamboo-based biorefinery in Assam

  •  Engineers India Limited (EIL) successfully completed the mechanical work for India's first bamboo-based biorefinery, which was established in Numaligarh, Assam.
  • It is the first project of its kind in India to produce second-generation (2G) bioethanol from ligno-cellulosic biomass, specifically using bamboo as its primary feedstock.
  • The biorefinery aims to boost the supply of ethanol for India's Ethanol Blending Program and support rural economies by creating a market for local bamboo farmers.

Central Government announced the annual licensing policy for opium cultivation for Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh for the crop year 2025-26

  • The Central Government of India announced the annual licensing policy for opium poppy cultivation for the crop year 2025-26 on September 12, 2025. The policy applies to farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, the only states where such cultivation is permitted.
  • Approximately 1.21 lakh farmers are eligible for licenses for the crop year 2025-26, a 23.5% increase over the licenses issued in the previous crop year.
  • This expansion includes roughly 15,000 additional farmers.

Government of India gave license to private companies to manufacture its first indigenous multi-stage malaria vaccine, ‘AdFalciVax'

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has licensed India's first indigenous multi-stage malaria vaccine, AdFalciVax, to five companies for large-scale manufacturing.

  • This step is a major move in India's goal to eliminate malaria by 2030.
  • The ICMR's Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) in Bhubaneswar led the development of AdFalciVax. It was created in collaboration with the National Institute of Immunology and the National Institute of Malaria Research.
  • The vaccine is specifically designed to combat Plasmodium falciparum, the deadliest malaria parasite.

AIIMS Becomes First Govt Medical College in India to Train on da Vinci Robotic System

AIIMS -  New Delhi has inaugurated the advanced da Vinci Surgical Robot at its Skills, ELearning and Telemedicine (SET) Facility, marking a significant milestone in robotic surgery training in India. 

 

  •        This is the first installation of the da Vinci system for training at a government medical college in the country.
  •        This system has been provided by Intuitive Surgical Company under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
  •        The centre already had the Hugo Robotic Trainer manufactured by Medtronic.

Namo Bharat Becomes India’s Fastest Train

The Namo Bharat train, operating at a maximum speed of 160 km/h on the 55-km stretch of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), has officially become the fastest train in the country.

It connects two key urban centers in under 60 minutes, redefining daily commuting in northern India.

  • Until now, semi-high-speed trains like the Gatimaan Express and Vande Bharat held the top spot, both running at 160 km/h on specific routes.
  • However, following a June 2024 directive, their speed was capped at 130 km/h.
