- Earlier this year, he was conferred the 59th Jnanpith Award for his outstanding contributions to Hindi literature.
- The Jnanpith Award is the highest literary honour in India, given to writers for excellence in literature across Indian languages.
- Vinod Kumar Shukla became the first person from Chhattisgarh to receive this prestigious award.
- His first poetry booklet, Lagbhag Jai Hind, was published in 1971.
