World Tsunami Awareness Day
- The date November 5 was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2015.
- It was chosen in commemoration of the Japanese story of "Inamura-no-hi" (the "Burning of the Rice Sheaves"), a legend about a farmer who saved his villagers from a tsunami by setting fire to his harvest to alert them to seek higher ground.
- 5 ਨਵੰਬਰ ਦੀ ਤਾਰੀਖ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਮਹਾਸਭਾ ਨੇ ਦਸੰਬਰ 2015 ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ।
- ਇਹ "ਇਨਾਮੁਰਾ-ਨੋ-ਹੀ" ("ਚੌਲਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੁੰਜਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜਨਾ") ਦੀ ਜਾਪਾਨੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਇੱਕ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਫ਼ਸਲ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗ ਲਗਾ ਕੇ ਸੁਨਾਮੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਇਆ ਸੀ।
