James Dewey Watson, the American molecular biologist renowned as the co-discoverer of the double-helix structure of DNA, passed away on November 6, 2025, at the age of 97.
In 1953, at the age of 25, he co-authored the seminal paper in Nature with Francis Crick proposing the now-famous double-helix model of the DNA molecule.
He, along with Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins, was awarded the 1962 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
