Nation Remembers Shaheed Udham Singh on His 126th Birth Anniversary/ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ 126ਵੇਂ ਜਨਮ ਦਿਵਸ 'ਤੇ ਯਾਦ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ
- Udham Singh was born on 26th December 1899 in Sunam, Sangrur district of Punjab.
- He survived the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 13th April 1919, where British Brigadier General Reginald Dyer’s troops killed over 400 unarmed civilians under the regime of Michael O’Dwyer, the Lieutenant Governor of Punjab.
- He joined the Ghadar Party in 1924 to mobilize Indians overseas against British rule and was imprisoned in 1927 for five years for possession of firearms.
- On 13th March 1940, Udham Singh assassinated Michael O’Dwyer during a meeting at Caxton Hall in London to avenge the massacre.
- ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ 26 ਦਸੰਬਰ 1899 ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਸੰਗਰੂਰ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਸੁਨਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ।
- ਉਹ 13 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 1919 ਨੂੰ ਜਲ੍ਹਿਆਂਵਾਲਾ ਬਾਗ ਕਤਲੇਆਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਗਏ ਸਨ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਬ੍ਰਿਗੇਡੀਅਰ ਜਨਰਲ ਰੇਜੀਨਾਲਡ ਡਾਇਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਫੌਜਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਲੈਫਟੀਨੈਂਟ ਗਵਰਨਰ ਮਾਈਕਲ ਓ'ਡਵਾਇਰ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਾਸਨਕਾਲ ਦੌਰਾਨ 400 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਨਿਹੱਥੇ ਨਾਗਰਿਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ।
- ਉਹ 1924 ਵਿੱਚ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਰਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਮਬੰਦ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਗਦਰ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ 1927 ਵਿੱਚ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜ ਸਾਲ ਕੈਦ ਕੱਟੀ ਗਈ।
- 13 ਮਾਰਚ 1940 ਨੂੰ, ਊਧਮ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕਤਲੇਆਮ ਦਾ ਬਦਲਾ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਲੰਡਨ ਦੇ ਕੈਕਸਟਨ ਹਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਮਾਈਕਲ ਓ'ਡਵਾਇਰ ਦਾ ਕਤਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
