BIS Notifies First Indian Standard for Agarbattis/ BIS ਨੇ ਅਗਰਬੱਤੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਮਿਆਰ ਸੂਚਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ
The Bureau of Indian Standards has released India’s first Indian Standard for incense sticks (agarbattis).
The newly notified standard specifies the prohibition of certain insecticide chemicals and synthetic fragrance substances in agarbattis that may pose risks to human health.
India is the world’s largest producer and exporter of agarbattis, with the industry estimated at around ₹8,000 crore annually and exports of about ₹1,200 crore to more than 150 countries.
