• The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has assigned additional charge of Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to Rakesh Aggarwal, following the premature repatriation of the incumbent DG Sadanand Vasant Date to his parent cadre.
• Rakesh Aggarwal is a 1994-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre and is currently serving as Special Director General of the NIA.

About National Investigation Agency (NIA)

•  Establishment: Constituted under the National Investigation Agency Act, 2008, enacted after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
• Objective: To investigate and prosecute offences that threaten India’s sovereignty, security, and integrity, its friendly relations with foreign states, and matters relating to international treaties.
• Schedule of offences: The Act contains a schedule of laws under which the NIA is empowered to investigate and prosecute cases.
• Headquarters: New Delhi, with zonal offices at Guwahati and Jammu.
• ਗ੍ਰਹਿ ਮੰਤਰਾਲੇ (MHA) ਨੇ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਡੀ.ਜੀ. ਸਦਾਨੰਦ ਵਸੰਤ ਡੇਟ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੇਰੈਂਟ ਕੇਡਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਾਪਸ ਭੇਜਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਏਜੰਸੀ (NIA) ਦੇ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਜਨਰਲ ਦਾ ਵਾਧੂ ਚਾਰਜ ਰਾਕੇਸ਼ ਅਗਰਵਾਲ ਨੂੰ ਸੌਂਪਿਆ ਹੈ।
• ਰਾਕੇਸ਼ ਅਗਰਵਾਲ ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਕਾਡਰ ਦਾ 1994-ਬੈਚ ਦਾ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਸੇਵਾ (IPS) ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ NIA ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਜਨਰਲ ਵਜੋਂ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਇਨਵੈਸਟੀਗੇਸ਼ਨ ਏਜੰਸੀ (ਐਨ.ਆਈ.ਏ.) ਬਾਰੇ

• ਸਥਾਪਨਾ: ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਇਨਵੈਸਟੀਗੇਸ਼ਨ ਏਜੰਸੀ ਐਕਟ, 2008 ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ ਗਠਿਤ, 26/11 ਦੇ ਮੁੰਬਈ ਅੱਤਵਾਦੀ ਹਮਲਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਲਾਗੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
• ਉਦੇਸ਼: ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂਸੱਤਾ, ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅਖੰਡਤਾ, ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਰਾਜਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਦੋਸਤਾਨਾ ਸਬੰਧਾਂ, ਅਤੇ ਅੰਤਰਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਸੰਧੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਤਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਚਲਾਉਣਾ।
• ਅਪਰਾਧਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਨੁਸੂਚੀ: ਇਸ ਐਕਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਅਨੁਸੂਚੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਤਹਿਤ NIA ਨੂੰ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਹੈ।
• ਹੈੱਡਕੁਆਰਟਰ: ਨਵੀਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ, ਗੁਹਾਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਜੰਮੂ ਵਿਖੇ ਜ਼ੋਨਲ ਦਫ਼ਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ।
