• The US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) has approved the first-ever oral pill for treating anaemia in adults with thalassemia.
• The drug Mitapivat, to be marketed under the brand name Aqvesme, is approved for adults with alpha- or beta-thalassemia.
• Mitapivat is the first medication indicated for both transfusion-dependent and non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia patients.
• It is a first-in-class drug designed to improve the energy balance within red blood cells (RBCs), thereby reducing anaemia.

• ਇਹ ਲਾਲ ਖੂਨ ਦੇ ਸੈੱਲਾਂ (ਆਰਬੀਸੀ) ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਊਰਜਾ ਸੰਤੁਲਨ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਇੱਕ ਪਹਿਲੀ-ਦਰਜੇ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਅਨੀਮੀਆ ਘੱਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
