STALIN TO INAUGURATE TAMIRABHARANI–KARUMENIYAR–NAMBIYAR RIVER LINKING SCHEME

  • Implemented at a cost of ₹900 crore benefiting over 15,000 acres of lands in rainshadow regions in Nanguneri, Thisaiyanvilai and Sattankulam areas in Tamil Nadu.
  • It involves constructing a 73-km-long flood carrier channel.
  • The river linking project connects Tamirabharani, Karumeniyar, and Nambiyar rivers.
  • The Thamiraparani is the only perennial (continuous flow of water) river in Tamil Nadu.
  • The goal is to redirect surplus water from the Tamirabharani to arid regions in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts.
