Government of India gave license to private companies to manufacture its first indigenous multi-stage malaria vaccine, ‘AdFalciVax'
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has licensed India's first indigenous multi-stage malaria vaccine, AdFalciVax, to five companies for large-scale manufacturing.
- This step is a major move in India's goal to eliminate malaria by 2030.
- The ICMR's Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) in Bhubaneswar led the development of AdFalciVax. It was created in collaboration with the National Institute of Immunology and the National Institute of Malaria Research.
- The vaccine is specifically designed to combat Plasmodium falciparum, the deadliest malaria parasite.
