Central Government announced the annual licensing policy for opium cultivation for Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh for the crop year 2025-26
- The Central Government of India announced the annual licensing policy for opium poppy cultivation for the crop year 2025-26 on September 12, 2025. The policy applies to farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, the only states where such cultivation is permitted.
- Approximately 1.21 lakh farmers are eligible for licenses for the crop year 2025-26, a 23.5% increase over the licenses issued in the previous crop year.
- This expansion includes roughly 15,000 additional farmers.
